The West Virginia University wrestling team secured a 25-10 victory over Rider University on Sunday at Hope Coliseum in Morgantown, bringing their season record to 5-0. This marks the first time since 1992 that the Mountaineers have started a season with five consecutive wins.

One of the standout performances came from redshirt junior Brody Conley in the 174-pound weight class. After falling behind early against Enrique Munguia of Rider, Conley managed to recover and ultimately won by fall late in the final period.

West Virginia claimed victories in all but three weight classes during the meet. Redshirt sophomore Ty Watters, ranked No. 1 at 157 pounds, maintained his undefeated status by defeating Liam Scrivanich with a technical fall, 18-2.

Redshirt senior Jordan Titus earned his first ranked win of the season in the 141-pound division by beating No. 19 Elijah Griffin with a score of 5-2. Additionally, redshirt freshman Rune Lawrence secured a ranked victory for WVU at 197 pounds by defeating No. 21 Brock Zurawski in sudden victory, finishing at 11-8.

The team’s two true freshmen also contributed wins: Gunner Andrick won his match at 133 pounds against Will Betancourt (6-3), and Brock Kehler defeated Steyn De Lange (4-2) in the heavyweight category.

Redshirt junior Ian Bush remained unbeaten in dual meets this season after winning by technical fall (16-0) over JP Hangey at 184 pounds.

The Mountaineers now hold a historical record of four wins and one loss against Rider University. The last time West Virginia opened its wrestling season with five straight victories, they finished that year with an overall record of seven wins and six losses.

West Virginia is scheduled to compete next at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on December 5–6 at the Westgate Hotel Paradise Event Center in Las Vegas.
