West Virginia University wrestling signs five nationally ranked recruits for 2026

The West Virginia University wrestling program has announced the signing of five student-athletes for its 2026 class. The new recruits are Jackson Angelo, Kaleo Garcia, Mason Jakob, Brennan Warwick, and Gage Wentzel.

Head coach Tim Flynn expressed optimism about the incoming group. “We love our signing class for 2026,” Flynn said. “All of these signees are nationally ranked. The future is very bright in Morgantown.”

Jackson Angelo comes from Perryopolis, Pennsylvania and attends Lake Highland Preparatory School in Orlando, Florida. He is ranked No. 249 overall by MatScouts for the Class of 2026 and is a two-time Pennsylvania state placer as well as an NHSCA Freshman Nationals All-American.

Kaleo Garcia is from Gilroy, California and competes for Gilroy High School. He placed seventh at the California state tournament and has qualified twice for the state championships.

Mason Jakob hails from Kingsport, Tennessee and wrestles for Dobyns Bennett High School. Ranked No. 18 overall by MatScouts in his class and among the top five at 120 pounds by both MatScouts and FloWrestling, Jakob is a three-time Tennessee state champion and has earned national recognition with placements at Super 32, Fargo All-American events, and Beast of the East tournaments.

Brennan Warwick represents Canton, Ohio’s Massillon Perry High School. He holds a No. 106 overall ranking by MatScouts for his class and ranks among the top dozen at 175 pounds according to both major scouting services. His accolades include being an NHSCA Junior Nationals All-American and earning placements at several high-profile tournaments.

Gage Wentzel comes from Montoursville, Pennsylvania where he wrestles for Montoursville High School. Ranked No. 99 overall by MatScouts with top-15 rankings at his weight class by both MatScouts and FloWrestling, Wentzel is a three-time NHSCA High School Nationals All-American as well as a multiple-time Pennsylvania state placer.
