No. 17 West Virginia University will host No. 5 Oklahoma State in a wrestling match at Hope Coliseum on Sunday at 2 p.m. The event, known as Coal Rush, will be streamed live on ESPN+, and fans can access live statistics through TrackWrestling.
West Virginia enters the meet with a 5-1 record and is seeking to recover from a recent loss to No. 22 North Carolina in Chapel Hill. The Mountaineers are led by Ty Watters, who is ranked No. 1 nationally at 157 pounds and remains undefeated this season with a 12-0 record, including an individual title at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
Watters is expected to face Oklahoma State’s Landon Robideau, who holds the No. 2 ranking at 157 pounds. This marks Watters’ second bout this season against a top-five opponent after defeating Stanford’s Daniel Cardenas earlier in November.
Another notable matchup will feature graduate student Jett Strickenberger, ranked No. 7 at 125 pounds for West Virginia, facing Oklahoma State’s Troy Spratley, ranked No. 8. This will be their fourth career meeting; Strickenberger leads the series two wins to one after victories last season in Stillwater and at the Big 12 Championships.
The dual meet includes four additional matches between nationally ranked wrestlers from both teams as West Virginia faces one of its most challenging opponents of the season.
This event marks the first time since the 2023-24 season that Oklahoma State has visited Morgantown for wrestling competition against West Virginia. Historically, West Virginia has not secured a win in any of its previous eighteen meetings with Oklahoma State.
Fans attending Coal Rush are encouraged to wear black attire; the first hundred attendees will receive a foam pickaxe as part of event promotions.
Projected lineups for both teams include several nationally ranked athletes across multiple weight classes.
