Virginia Tech wrestling began its 2025-2026 season at the Southeast Open in Salem, Virginia, on November 2. The team finished with one individual title, two runner-up placements, and a total of 11 podium finishes.
Redshirt freshman Dillon Campbell won the 133-pound division. Campbell, ranked No. 27 nationally in his weight class, secured bonus point victories in all four matches and outscored his opponents by a combined score of 57-2. He did not allow an offensive point throughout the tournament. In the finals, Campbell defeated No. 8 Braxton Brown with an 11-0 decision.
Graduate transfer Jaden Bullock and freshman Ben Weader both finished as runners-up in their respective divisions—184 pounds (Open) for Bullock and 165 pounds (fresh/soph) for Weader. Bullock, ranked No. 22 at 184 pounds, achieved an upset win over No. 20 Ian Bush from West Virginia to reach the finals.
Other notable performances included transfer Sergio Desiante (No. 20 at 174 pounds), who placed third after defeating No. 21 Clayton Whiting of Minnesota following a semifinal loss; and freshman Ryan Burton (165 pounds), who also took third place after narrowly losing to Minnesota’s No. 10 Andrew Sparks in the semifinals before winning his final match.
Glean Gonzalez claimed third place in the fresh/soph division at 184 pounds, while returning heavyweight Jimmy Mullen finished third in the open division with a technical fall over North Carolina’s No. 22 Nolan Neves.
Additional podium finishes came from Sonny Sasso (fourth at 197 pounds), Tom Crook (fifth at 141 pounds), Mac Church (fifth at 165 pounds), Parker Ferrell (fifth at heavyweight), and Gunnar Garelli (sixth at fresh/soph, 184 pounds).
The Hokies’ next competition is scheduled for Friday, November 7, against Bucknell at Cassell Coliseum to open their dual meet season. Admission is free and fans can watch live on ACC Network Extra.
