The University of Northern Iowa wrestling team finished its season at the NCAA Division I Men’s Wrestling Championships at Rocket Arena, according to a March 20 report. The Panthers ended their run in the bloodround, marking the close of the 2025-26 campaign.

The conclusion of the tournament is significant for UNI as it highlights both individual and team performances on a national stage. The event serves as a benchmark for athletes and programs across collegiate wrestling.

Veteran wrestlers Julian Farber (133 pounds) and Ryder Downey (165 pounds) were eliminated in their respective matches during the fourth session. Farber, who had two consolation round wins earlier in the tournament, narrowly lost to seventh-seeded Lucas Byrd from Illinois by a score of 5-4. Farber finishes his senior season with a record of 21-11 and holds an overall career mark of 84-41, which is currently the highest among active Panther wrestlers.

Downey competed in his third NCAA Championships and also advanced through two consolation victories before falling to Bryce Hepner from North Carolina by a score of 1-0. Downey ends his season with a record of 24-7. Other UNI competitors included Caleb Rathjen (149 pounds), who finished with a 2-2 record; Jared Simma (174 pounds), who went 1-2; and Nick Fox (184 pounds), who also posted a 1-2 result.

The Panthers collectively achieved nine wins at this year’s national tournament, including two technical falls by Downey. Full results are available on UNI’s official athletics website and social media channels.

Looking ahead, UNI will continue to share updates and news about its wrestling program through its online platforms as athletes prepare for future seasons.
