NC State wrestling alumnus Trent Hidlay will represent the United States at the 2025 Senior World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia. The competition is scheduled for September 14 and 15, where Hidlay will compete in the 92kg weight class.
Hidlay is only the second wrestler from NC State’s program to make the senior world team. Nick Gwiazdowski previously competed for Team USA at this level in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021.
Heading into the tournament, Hidlay holds the No. 8 seed in his division. However, FloWrestling ranks him third globally based on head-to-head matchups and considers him one of three favorites to win the title due to his recent performances and past achievements.
In July, Hidlay won a gold medal at the Budapest Ranking series. Since February, he has secured victories over Abubakr Abakarov, Josh Barr, Miriani Maisuradze, Eric Schultz, and Aeoden Sinclari.
The schedule for Hidlay’s matches begins with qualification rounds on Sunday morning at 4:30 a.m. ET. Semifinals are set for later that morning at 10:30 a.m., followed by medal matches at noon for other weight classes. On Monday, qualification rounds resume at 4:30 a.m., with semifinals starting at 10:00 a.m., and medal matches—including those for Hidlay’s division—scheduled for noon.
