Mizzou wrestling has announced that Teague Travis, a two-time NCAA qualifier, will join the team as a redshirt senior for the second semester. Travis returns to Columbia after competing for Oklahoma State and brings with him a college record of 41 wins and 14 losses.
Travis qualified for the NCAA tournament at both 157 and 149 pounds, achieving a 4-4 record in national competition. Over his collegiate career, he placed fourth at the Big 12 Championship in each of the past two seasons. He has also recorded five falls, one technical fall, and eleven major decisions.
Travis began his high school wrestling career at Father Tolton Catholic in Columbia under coach James Williamson, winning three Missouri State Titles before transferring to Stillwater High School in Oklahoma for his senior year. There, he was coached by Ethan Kyle and won his fourth state championship.
Wrestling is part of Travis’s family history at Mizzou; his father Brooks Travis and uncle Corey Hodapp both wrestled for the Tigers, while his mother Katy was on the university’s cheer team.
On returning to Mizzou, Travis said: “I want to finish my wrestling career where it started.”
Head Coach Brian Smith commented: “Some journeys take you far, but the best ones lead you home. Seeing Teague in Black and Gold just feels right. He gets to carry on a family tradition where his dad and uncle competed. We are excited for what he can accomplish in his final season.”
