Stanford defeats North Carolina wrestling team on senior night

Stanford’s wrestling team secured a 28-6 victory over No. 12 North Carolina on Friday night in Chapel Hill, winning eight out of ten bouts during the Atlantic Coast Conference match.

The loss brings North Carolina’s regular season to a close with a record of 9-5 overall and 2-4 in conference competition. The event took place at Carmichael Arena with an attendance of 625.

North Carolina’s Collin Carrigan (174 pounds) and Jacob Levy (285 pounds) were the only Tar Heel wrestlers to earn wins during the meet. Carrigan defeated Stanford’s Collin Guffey by a score of 9-7, marking his second consecutive ACC win after last week’s decision against Virginia Tech’s Sergio Desiante. Levy ended the match with a 9-2 decision over Brokton Borelli, earning his first conference victory as a true freshman.

The detailed results included several ranked matchups. At 125 pounds, No. 9 Nico Provo from Stanford beat No. 13 Kysen Terukina from UNC with a score of 4-1. In the following weight classes, Stanford continued its dominance: Tyler Knox (133), Jack Consiglio (141), Aden Valencia (149), Daniel Cardenas (157), EJ Parco (165), Abraham Wojcikiewicz (184), and Angelo Posada (197) all recorded victories for Stanford.

Looking ahead, North Carolina will participate in the ACC Championships scheduled for Sunday, March 8 in Blacksburg, Virginia.

“Carrigan’s 9-7 victory over Stanford’s Collin Guffey was his second-straight ACC win, following last week’s decision against No. 30 Sergio Desiante of Virginia Tech.”

“Rounding out the match at heavyweight, Levy collected a 9-2 decision against Brokton Borelli. The win for Levy was his first conference victory for the Tar Heel true freshman.”
