Seniors Sheldon Seymour and Max Brignola represented Lehigh University at the NWCA All-Star Classic held Saturday night at Rutgers’ Jersey Mikes Arena in Piscataway, New Jersey. Both athletes were defeated in their respective exhibition matches.
In a rematch of the 2025 NCAA fifth place match at 125 pounds, Seymour lost 4-0 to Eddie Ventresca from Virginia Tech. Ventresca scored an early takedown and maintained control throughout the match. Seymour managed to erase riding time in the second period but conceded an escape and was unable to score in the final period.
Brignola competed against Hunter Garvin of Stanford at 165 pounds. The match remained scoreless through the first period, with Garvin taking a 1-0 lead after an escape in the second. Brignola had opportunities for takedowns but could not capitalize. He tied the match with an escape early in the third period, but Garvin secured a late takedown in the final seconds to win 4-1.
These matches were part of an annual exhibition event and do not affect official season records.
This appearance marked the first time since November 2023 that Lehigh wrestlers have participated in the NWCA All-Star Classic. The last occasion when multiple Mountain Hawks competed was in 2015.
Lehigh’s wrestling team will begin its official 2025-26 season at the Princeton Open on Sunday, where several wrestlers are expected to compete starting at 9 a.m.
The upcoming season is presented by Historic Hotel Bethlehem.
