Six University of Iowa wrestlers were named All-Americans during the medal rounds of the 2026 NCAA Championships on March 21 at Rocket Arena in Cleveland. A seventh Hawkeye, Michael Caliendo, will compete in the finals later in the evening.

The recognition marks Iowa’s highest number of All-Americans since the 2020-21 season. The achievement highlights the strength and depth of the wrestling program this year.

Drake Ayala finished fifth at 133 pounds, closing his Hawkeye career as a three-time All-American with an overall record of 83-26. “It’s bittersweet,” said Ayala. “My last time on the mat, you know? It was fun. It has been a roller coaster of a year, as you guys know. I know I didn’t get what I wanted – and never did – but I learned a lot, I grew as a man and I’m proud of myself.” Ryder Block placed sixth at 149 pounds and earned first-team All-America honors with an 18-11 season record.

Patrick Kennedy secured third place at 174 pounds, ending his career as a two-time All-American with an overall record of 82-26. “Two-time All-American is good,” said Kennedy. “There is a lot left out there. But going back to putting your work boots on, it’s like someday it is going to be over and you have to go to work. You go to work every day.” Angelo Ferrari finished sixth at 184 pounds after medically forfeiting his medal-round matches in his first NCAA Championships appearance.

Gabe Arnold placed seventh at 197 pounds while competing across three weight classes this season, finishing with a record of 24-8. Ben Kueter took fifth place at heavyweight after dropping his consolation semifinal and receiving a medical forfeit in the fifth-place match; he earned All-America honors for the second consecutive year.

Iowa currently stands fourth in team scores behind Penn State, Oklahoma State, and Nebraska. The final session of the NCAA Championships will begin at 5:30 p.m., with finals matches broadcast live on ESPN.
