Santoro reaches coaching milestone as Lehigh defeats Morgan State in wrestling dual

No. 21 Lehigh University’s wrestling team secured a 34-9 win against Morgan State on Friday night at Hurt Gymnasium in Baltimore, marking the team’s sixth straight dual victory of the year. The Mountain Hawks claimed seven out of ten bouts and earned bonus points in six of those matches.

This match also marked a milestone for head coach Pat Santoro, who achieved his 200th win with Lehigh. Santoro, now in his 18th season leading the Mountain Hawks, holds a record of 200-92-1 with the team.

Lehigh improved its season record to 9-6 overall and remains undefeated in Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) competition at 4-0.

In the opening bout at 125 pounds, Logan Wadle filled in for graduate student Sheldon Seymour but lost to Julian Dawson by decision. First-year wrestler Mason Ziegler put Lehigh ahead with a technical fall over Jimmie Jones at 133 pounds. Sophomore Luke Stanich extended Lehigh’s lead with his first pin of the season at 141 pounds.

Morgan State responded at 149 pounds as their only ranked wrestler, Eugene Harney, defeated Carter Bailey in sudden victory overtime. At 157 pounds, Logan Rozynski came from behind to win over Yannis Charles.

Senior Max Brignola continued his streak of bonus-point victories with a technical fall at 165 pounds. Morgan State notched its third win when Cort Vann edged Zeke Dubler at 174 pounds.

Lehigh finished strongly, securing three consecutive technical falls: Rylan Rogers won at 184 pounds; JT Davis followed suit at 197; and Nathan Taylor closed out the dual with another technical fall at heavyweight.

The Mountain Hawks will return home to host Penn on Friday and Bucknell on Saturday for Senior Day at Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. Tickets are available online or by phone during business hours.
