Rutgers University announced on Feb. 4 that its No. 17 ranked wrestling team will host No. 6 Minnesota on Friday at Jersey Mike’s Arena in Piscataway, New Jersey. The Big Ten Conference match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start and will be streamed on Big Ten Plus.

The matchup is significant as Rutgers enters the contest following consecutive dual wins against Maryland and Rider, bringing their season record to 10-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Scarlet Knights’ recent victories included a dominant performance over Maryland, winning seven out of ten matches, and a road win at Rider that marked their eleventh straight victory in the series.

Minnesota arrives with a record of 9-4 overall and 3-2 in the Big Ten after defeating then-No. 4 Iowa for the first time since 2014, moving up to No. 6 in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll. The Golden Gophers feature nine nationally ranked wrestlers according to Intermat, including reigning NCAA bronze medalist Max McEnelly at the 184-pound weight class.

Projected lineups for both teams include several nationally ranked athletes across multiple weight classes. For Rutgers, all ten starters appear in the initial coaches’ ranking for the upcoming NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, with five wrestlers placed within the top twenty of their respective categories.

Historically, Minnesota leads the all-time series against Rutgers with seven wins and no losses, all occurring during Big Ten competition. In last year’s meeting on Feb. 2, Minnesota defeated Rutgers by a score of 28-9 in Minneapolis.

Looking ahead, Rutgers is set to travel to Michigan State for another conference matchup on Saturday, Feb. 13.
