Fourteenth-ranked Pitt secured a 22-9 win over No. 11 North Carolina in an Atlantic Coast Conference wrestling match held Friday at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill. Pitt claimed victory in seven of the ten bouts, improving its season record to 10-2 overall and 2-1 in ACC duals. North Carolina’s record dropped to 8-3 overall and 1-2 in conference competition.
For the Tar Heels, Kysen Terukina (125 pounds), Bryce Hepner (165 pounds), and Jake Dailey (184 pounds) each earned decision victories. The match began at the 149-pound weight class, with Pitt taking early control by winning the first two matches.
Hepner gave North Carolina its first points of the night with a 4-2 decision over Jared Keslar, using a first-period takedown to secure his win. At 184 pounds, Dailey remained undefeated in conference action after defeating Chase Kranitz by a score of 7-3. Terukina closed out North Carolina’s scoring with his first ACC win of the season, earning an 8-6 decision against Tyler Chappell.
Pitt won matches at several other weights, including notable decisions by Evan Tallmadge (133), Briar Priest (141), Kade Brown (149), Dylan Evans (157), Luca Augustine (174), Mac Stout (197), and Dayton Pitzer at heavyweight.
The next meet for North Carolina will be against Duke on Friday inside Carmichael Arena. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACCNX.
