The Oklahoma State wrestling team secured a second-place finish with one session remaining at the NCAA Wrestling Championships, according to a March 21 announcement. The Cowboys finished Saturday’s early session with 119 points, their highest total through five sessions since 2005.
This performance places Oklahoma State ahead of several other top programs and marks an improvement over six national champion totals since the NCAA adopted its current placement point system in 2001. The team’s strong showing underscores its competitive standing as it heads into the final session of the championships.
During Saturday morning’s session, four Oklahoma State wrestlers completed their All-America runs. Konner Doucet finished fourth at heavyweight, Troy Spratley took fifth at 125 pounds, Casey Swiderski placed eighth at 149 pounds, and Zack Ryder claimed eighth at 184 pounds. Doucet, the only senior in the starting lineup, concluded his career with a record of 72-30 and earned his first All-America honors this weekend.
Spratley began the day in the consolation semifinals but lost to Vincent Robinson of North Carolina State before pinning Jacob Moran of Indiana for fifth place. Doucet advanced past Nebraska’s AJ Ferrari by medical forfeit but fell to Michigan’s Taye Ghadiali in the third-place match. Swiderski and Ryder both finished eighth after losses in their respective seventh-place matches.
Looking ahead to Saturday night’s finals at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, four Oklahoma State freshmen will compete for national titles—the first time since 2014 that four Cowboys have reached the finals. “We’ve got four guys in the finals,” coach David Taylor said. “Four opportunities to go out, wrestle hard, and win a national championship. So, I expect these guys to go out strong and wrestle hard. They’ve just got to go out and wrestle and can’t think about anything else until it’s over.”
The final session is scheduled for Saturday evening with coverage on ESPN.
