Oklahoma State University’s wrestling team secured a 25-11 victory over Arizona State on Sunday at Desert Financial Arena in Tempe. The Cowboys won seven out of ten matches, with wrestlers Landon Robideau (157 pounds), Alex Facundo (174), and Cody Merrill (197) earning bonus points for their performances. With this win, Oklahoma State improves its season record to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in conference competition, while Arizona State falls to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the Big 12.
Sergio Vega, ranked No. 2 at 141 pounds and a true freshman returning to his home state of Arizona, defeated previously unbeaten No. 30 Pierson Manville with an 8-3 decision. This result brought Vega’s record to 6-0 for the season. True freshmen LaDarion Lockett and Robideau also remain undefeated so far in their college careers.
Robideau achieved his third ranked win by defeating No. 24 Chance McLane for his sixth victory of the year. Both Merrill and Facundo picked up their second bonus-point wins during the road trip; Facundo recorded a major decision against Cael Valencia, while Merrill earned a technical fall over Maxi Acciardi for his fifth win.
Other notable results included heavyweight Konner Doucet, ranked No. 8, who won with a late takedown against No. 23 David Szuba to secure a 5-2 decision—his fifth win this season—and Zach Ryder (184), who claimed his second straight bout with a shutout victory.
Troy Spratley, also ranked eighth at 125 pounds, edged out No. 33 Damian Moreno by scoring the only takedown in the match’s second period for a final score of 4-1.
In other matches, Richard Figueroa II lost to Kyler Larkin at 133 pounds in what was Figueroa’s return to Arizona State after winning a national title there last year at a lower weight class. Cutter Sheets (149) and Kody Routledge (165) both fell to ranked opponents.
The next event for Oklahoma State is scheduled against West Virginia on December 14 in Morgantown, which will be broadcast on ESPN+.
