Ohio State wrestling starts season with dominant win over Chattanooga

Ohio State University’s wrestling team began its 2025-26 dual season with a decisive 42-4 victory over the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Sunday at McKenzie Arena. The Buckeyes, ranked No. 4/5 nationally, won nine out of ten matches and recorded seven bonus-point wins.

At 125 pounds, Brendan McCrone secured a decision over Ty Tice with a final score of 4-2. Ben Davino followed at 133 pounds, defeating Ethan Lipsey by technical fall, 19-4. Jesse Mendez continued Ohio State’s strong start at 141 pounds with a technical fall win over Hunter Mason, finishing the match 21-6.

Chattanooga earned its only win in the 149-pound bout when Billy Meiszner defeated Daxton Chase by major decision, 10-1.

Ohio State regained momentum at 157 pounds as Landon Desselle pinned Cavarius Liddie in the second period to win by fall. Paddy Gallagher (165), Carson Kharchla (174), Dylan Fishback (184), and Nick Feldman (HWT) each won their matches by technical fall. At 197 pounds, Luke Geog defeated Kade Rule by decision, closing out the Buckeyes’ performance.

Attendance for the event was reported as 1,912.

The Buckeyes will next compete in the National Duals on November 15-16 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They are scheduled to open against Wyoming; further details about the event are available at https://nationaldualsinvitational.com/.

In addition to their dual meet success, Ohio State wrestlers also claimed two titles Saturday at the Michigan State Open in East Lansing. Vinny Kilkeary won the Open Division title at 125 pounds after going undefeated with three victories. Seth Shumate captured first place at 197 pounds with a similar record.

Other notable performances from Ohio State athletes included Dakota King finishing fourth in the Freshman/Sophomore Division at 133 pounds and Brogan Fielding placing fifth at 141 pounds.
