Ohio State wrestling defeats NC State to remain unbeaten

No. 2 Ohio State’s wrestling team maintained its undefeated record with a 26-10 victory over No. 9 NC State at the Covelli Center in Columbus on Friday. The Buckeyes now stand at 8-0 for the season, while NC State falls to 5-3.

The match began with NC State’s Vincent Robinson defeating Ohio State’s Brendan McCrone by major decision, 12-3, at 125 pounds. Ben Davino of Ohio State responded at 133 pounds, winning his bout against Zach Redding by decision, 7-1.

Jesse Mendez continued the momentum for the Buckeyes at 141 pounds with a technical fall over Ryan Jack, finishing the match 21-6. Ethan Stiles secured a close win at 149 pounds, defeating Koy Buesgens by decision, 4-3.

At 157 pounds, Brandon Cannon earned a major decision over Jackson Arrington with a score of 9-1. Will Denny of NC State took the win at 165 pounds against Paddy Gallagher in sudden victory, ending the bout at 6-5 after Gallagher was called for stalling.

Carson Kharchla won his match for Ohio State at 174 pounds against Matthew Singleton by decision, finishing with an 8-4 score. Dylan Fishback added another major decision for Ohio State at 184 pounds over Don Cates, winning 12-1.

Luke Geog extended Ohio State’s lead with a major decision over Cason Howle at 197 pounds, ending the match at 17-4. In the heavyweight division, Isaac Trumble from NC State defeated Nick Feldman of Ohio State by decision, closing out the dual meet with a score of 5-1.

Attendance for the event was reported as 3,895.

Ohio State will next compete in Nashville on December 21 during the Collegiate Duals and is scheduled to face Little Rock and No. 3 Iowa State.
