Ohio State wrestling advances to National Duals semifinals after wins over Wyoming and Minnesota

Ohio State’s wrestling team advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 National Duals Invitational after winning two matches on Saturday at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Buckeyes, ranked No. 4/6, defeated Wyoming 33-6 in the opening round and then overcame No. 10 Minnesota with a score of 29-6 in the quarterfinals.

In their first match against Wyoming, Ohio State quickly built a commanding lead. All-American Jesse Mendez secured a pin just 33 seconds into his bout at 141 pounds against John Aiden, contributing six team points. Ben Davino also recorded a technical fall at 133 pounds. Freshman Maddox Shaw earned his first dual win for Ohio State with an 8-0 victory at 149 pounds, while Brandon Cannon added another technical fall at 157 pounds.

Following this win, Ohio State faced Minnesota in the quarterfinals. The Buckeyes started strong again, taking a 19-0 lead that included an upset by Nic Bouzakis over No. 8 Jore Volk at 125 pounds and another technical fall from Davino. Carson Kharchla won by technical fall at 174 pounds, and both Seth Shumate (197) and Nick Feldman (heavyweight) picked up decision victories to close out the match.

Ohio State will next compete against No. 2 Nebraska in Sunday’s semifinal round scheduled for 11 a.m., with coverage available on Flowrestling.org.

After these results, Ohio State maintains an undefeated record of 3-0 for the season as they advance further into national competition.
