Ohio State wrestlers win three titles at Kent State Open

Three members of the Ohio State Buckeyes wrestling team won titles at the 2025 Kent State Open on Saturday, while another finished as runner-up.

Vinny Kilkeary (125 pounds), Landon Desselle (157 pounds), and Seth Shumate (197 pounds) each posted undefeated 4-0 records in their brackets to secure first place. E’Than Birden took second place at 165 pounds with a 4-1 record. Daxton Chase finished third at 149 pounds.

The No. 2 ranked Ohio State team, which currently holds a 7-0 record, will return home for a dual meet against No. 9 NC State at the Covelli Center on Friday. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m., with live streaming available through B1G+.

At the Kent State Open, Kilkeary earned his title by recording two falls and a technical fall before winning his final match by decision. Birden advanced to the finals after three wins and one technical fall but was defeated in his last bout. Shumate dominated his bracket with two falls and two technical falls to claim first place. Desselle also secured his title with two major decisions, one fall, and a decision victory in the final round.

Other Buckeye wrestlers competing included Carson Mize (184), Patrick Downing (165), and T.J. Schierl (165).
