The University of Northern Iowa wrestling team, ranked 15th nationally, secured a 22-14 victory over No. 14 Missouri in a Big 12 Conference dual meet held Sunday at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls. The win marks UNI’s third consecutive dual victory over Missouri, a streak not achieved in the past 23 seasons. The Panthers have now won ten of their last eleven Big 12 duals.
UNI opened and closed the event with bonus point wins. Wyatt Voelker clinched the team’s third dual win of the season by earning a technical fall at heavyweight against Jarrett Stoner.
Trever Anderson started the day for UNI at 125 pounds with a major decision over Mack Mauger, winning 12-0 for his first bonus point victory this year. At 133 pounds, Julian Farber edged out Kade Moore with a late takedown and riding time advantage to secure a 9-8 decision.
Cory Land followed at 141 pounds, defeating Zeke Seltzer by decision, while Ryder Downey earned his eighth straight win at 165 pounds with a narrow 1-0 result against Max Mayfield. Jared Simma contributed another major decision for UNI at 174 pounds, shutting out Peyton Westpfahl 12-0.
Missouri collected points through victories at 149 and 157 pounds and saw Aeoden Sinclair earn a technical fall over CJ Walrath at 184 pounds. Evan Bates added another win for Missouri at 197 pounds before Voelker sealed the overall match for UNI.
Head coach Doug Schwab commented on his team’s performance: “I think we competed well today,” Schwab said. “We talk about fight and hustle and today we did that. This week we were a bit sharper with our training and energy and it put us in good shape.”
UNI will next host North Carolina on December 21 at the McLeod Center, with competition beginning at 1 p.m. Central Time. Tickets are available online or through the UNI Ticket Office.
