The North Carolina wrestling team ended its preseason activities with the Blue and White Showcase on Saturday evening in Chapel Hill. The event featured a series of matches between members of the squad, giving athletes an opportunity to compete ahead of the regular season.
Results from the showcase included several close contests. In the 125-pound match, Liam Hickey representing Blue defeated Cam Stinson from White by a 1-0 decision. At 133 pounds, Matthew Botello (Blue) secured a technical fall over Max Martin (White) with a score of 22-7. The 141-pound bout saw Luke Simcox (White) win by fall against Elias Navida (Blue).
Other results included Mitchell Younger (Blue) winning over Nikolus O’Neill (White) at 149 pounds by a 13-10 decision, and Nate Askew (Blue) defeating Cullen Kane (White) at 149/157 pounds with a major decision of 14-4. In the 165-pound category, Luke Sipes (Blue) earned a major decision victory over Colin Nugent (White), finishing at 15-1.
In the higher weight classes, Jake Dailey (Blue) took a 4-1 decision over Nick Fea (White) at 184 pounds, while Collin Carrigan (White) edged out Marcus Murabito (Blue), 5-3, also at 184 pounds. At 197 pounds, Robert Platt (White) claimed a 6-3 decision against Mikey Calcagno (Blue).
The Tar Heels will begin their regular season on Sunday, November 2 at the Southeast Open in Salem, Virginia.
