The University of North Carolina wrestling team, ranked 22nd nationally, will host No. 17 West Virginia on Friday night at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill. This event marks the final home dual for the Tar Heels in the 2025 calendar year.
The match is scheduled for December 12 at 7 p.m. and will be available to watch on ACCNX.
Earlier this season, North Carolina achieved victories over UNC Pembroke, Greensboro College, and Davidson during the Carolina Duals held in November. The team won all 30 matches that day, with 26 of those wins coming by bonus points. The Tar Heels’ current 5-0 record is their best season start since the 2005-06 campaign. Additionally, their three consecutive shutouts at the Carolina Duals set a new program record for longest shutout streak.
Friday’s matchup will be the first meeting between North Carolina and West Virginia since the 2008-09 season and the first time they have competed against each other in Chapel Hill since the 1968-69 season.
Six Tar Heel wrestlers are currently featured in this week’s InterMat Wrestling rankings: Kysen Terukina (No. 16 at 125 lbs.), Ethan Oakley (No. 16 at 133 lbs.), Luke Simcox (No. 19 at 141 lbs.), Laird Root (No. 33 at 157 lbs.), Bryce Hepner (No. 18 at 165 lbs.), and Nolan Neves (No. 28 at heavyweight).
Probable lineups for both teams have been announced, including several ranked matchups such as Kysen Terukina facing Jett Strickenberger and Laird Root taking on top-ranked Ty Watters.
