The Big 12 Conference has received 61 pre-allocations for the upcoming 2025 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship, according to an announcement made on Thursday, February 27. This total places the Big 12 second among all Division I conferences, with only the Big Ten receiving more at 87 allocations.
The NCAA used a sliding scale based on three standards—win percentage, coaches’ rank, and RPI ranking—to determine the number of spots per weight class. Wrestlers who met at least two out of these three criteria helped their conference earn qualifying spots in their respective weight classes. Each conference is guaranteed at least one automatic qualifier per weight class, which will be awarded to the tournament champion regardless of other qualifications. All championship allocations are finalized based on place-finish at each conference tournament.
After all conference tournaments conclude, the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee will select an additional 43 at-large qualifiers during an in-person meeting. These selections will be announced on March 11. Brackets and seeding information for all weight classes—which will feature a field of 33 wrestlers each—will be released via NCAA.com at 7 p.m. on March 12.
Missouri’s wrestling program had nine out of ten athletes qualify through last year’s Big 12 Tournament, with another earning an at-large bid. The brackets and seeds for this year’s conference tournament are scheduled for release on Monday, March 4.
Currently, Missouri has seven wrestlers featured in the third and final NCAA coaches’ rankings, with four athletes ranked inside the top fifteen within their respective weight classes:
125 | No. 33 Gage Walker
141 | No. 15 Josh Edmond
157 | No. 26 James Conway
165 | No. 14 Cam Steed
174 | No. 5 Keegan O’Toole
184 | No. 11 Colton Hawks
285 | No. 29 Seth Nitzel
The Tigers are set to compete in Tulsa, Oklahoma as they begin participation in the Big 12 Championship starting Saturday, March 8.
