NC State wrestling secures victory over Northern Iowa in National Duals opener

NC State wrestling began the National Duals Invitational with a 27-8 victory over Northern Iowa in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The team, ranked seventh nationally, advanced to the quarterfinals after winning five matches against top-15 opponents.

Freshman Will Denny contributed a key win at 165 pounds by defeating fifth-ranked Ryder Downey with a last-second takedown. Zach Redding, who joined NC State from Iowa State this year, also earned a notable win at 133 pounds by beating 12th-ranked Julian Farber in sudden victory. Both Redding and Koy Buesgens secured extra-time victories during the dual.

NC State won all four of its head-to-head ranked matchups at 125, 133, 149, and 174 pounds. The team achieved five wins over top-15 opponents in total.

The team will face fifth-ranked Oklahoma State in the quarterfinals later today. The match is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET and will be streamed on FloWrestling.

The dual took place at the BOK Center in Tulsa. Results include:

– Vincent Robinson (NC State) defeated Trever Anderson (Northern Iowa) at 125 pounds.
– Zach Redding (NC State) beat Julian Farber (Northern Iowa) at 133 pounds.
– Ryan Jack (NC State) won against Cory Land (Northern Iowa) at 141 pounds.
– Koy Buesgens (NC State) overcame Caleb Rathjen (Northern Iowa) at 149 pounds.
– Jackson Arrington (NC State) was victorious over RJ Weston (Northern Iowa) at 157 pounds.
– Will Denny (NC State) defeated Ryder Downey (Northern Iowa) at 165 pounds.
– Matty Singleton (NC State) won against Jared Simma (Northern Iowa) at 174 pounds.
– Don Cates (NC State) received a win by injury default against Nick Fox (Northern Iowa).
– Kalob Runyon (Northern Iowa) beat Cason Howle (NC State) at 197 pounds.
– Wyatt Voelker (Northern Iowa) achieved a technical fall over Everest Ouellette (NC State) at heavyweight.
