NC State’s wrestling team, ranked 10th nationally, will travel to face Appalachian State on Sunday at Varsity Gym in Boone. The dual meet is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and will be streamed live on FloWrestling.

The probable lineups include several highly ranked NC State wrestlers. Vincent Robinson, who holds the top national ranking at 125 pounds after winning a national championship last season, may compete against Cooper Foster. Other ranked NC State athletes expected to participate include Ryan Jack (#11 at 141 lbs), Koy Buesgens (#9 at 149 lbs), Jackson Arrington (#11 at 157 lbs), Will Denny (#21 at 165 lbs), Matty Singleton (#4 at 174 lbs), and Isaac Trumble (#2 at heavyweight).
A win on Sunday would mark the program’s 795th all-time victory, as well as head coach Pat Popolizio’s 260th career win and his 179th with NC State. It would also be the Wolfpack’s 35th win over Appalachian State in their series history. The two teams have met 44 times previously, with NC State winning their most recent matchup last season by a score of 34-12. Appalachian State has not defeated NC State since 2010.
NC State began this season ranked in the top ten of the NWCA preseason poll for the ninth consecutive year. Eight wrestlers from the team are currently ranked in their weight classes by InterMat, with four appearing in the top ten.
The Wolfpack roster features seven NCAA qualifiers, including one national champion and four All-Americans.
Within the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), five teams are currently ranked among the nation’s top twenty-five: Virginia Tech (No. 8), NC State (No. 10), Pittsburgh (No. 19), North Carolina (No. 21), and Stanford (No. 24). There are seven ACC schools with wrestling programs overall.
NC State aims to reclaim the ACC title this season after sharing regular-season honors with Virginia Tech and North Carolina last year but finishing third in the championship tournament. The Wolfpack had previously held or shared the conference trophy for six straight seasons from 2019 through 2024.
According to InterMat rankings, NC State leads all ACC teams with three wrestlers placed among the top five nationally in their respective weight classes: Robinson (#1 at 125 lbs.), Singleton (#4 at 174 lbs.), and Trumble (#3 at heavyweight). Overall, ten ACC wrestlers are ranked in InterMat’s top ten for their divisions, with four coming from NC State.
