Ninth-ranked NC State wrestling lost to No. 2 Ohio State on Friday evening with a final score of 26-10 at the Covelli Center in Columbus, Ohio. The event drew nearly 4,000 spectators.
Vincent Robinson secured the only major decision for NC State, defeating Brendan McCrone. Koy Buesgens and Matty Singleton each experienced their first defeats of the season against top-10 ranked opponents.
Freshman Will Denny continued his strong performance by upsetting two-time NCAA Qualifier Paddy Gallagher in sudden victory. This win marks Denny’s second over a top-15 opponent this season.
Isaac Trumble, returning from a knee injury suffered during last spring’s NCAA tournament, defeated All-American Nick Feldman with a 5-1 decision.
NC State will next host a quad-meet at Reynolds Coliseum on Sunday, December 21, facing George Mason at 11 a.m., The Citadel at 1 p.m., and Buffalo at 3 p.m.
Ohio State won matches at several weights: Ben Davino over Zach Redding (133 lbs), Jesse Mendez over Ryan Jack (141 lbs), Ethan Stiles over Koy Buesgens (149 lbs), Brandon Cannon over Jackson Arrington (157 lbs), Carson Kharchla over Matty Singleton (174 lbs), Dylan Fishback over Don Cates (184 lbs), and Luke Geog over Cason Howle (197 lbs).
The match concluded with Isaac Trumble’s victory for NC State in the heavyweight division.
