NC State’s wrestling team, ranked tenth nationally, achieved two wins on Sunday at Willow Spring High School in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. The Wolfpack defeated Morgan State with a score of 45-4 and overcame thirteenth-ranked Rutgers 27-11 during the Journeymen Jostle event.
The victories improve NC State’s record to 5-2 this season and add another top-15 win to their performance. Across both matches, NC State wrestlers won sixteen out of twenty bouts, including eleven bonus point wins and a forfeit at heavyweight against Morgan State.
Several individual performances stood out. Koy Buesgens and Matty Singleton each secured two more wins, bringing their season records to 11-0 and 7-0 respectively. Singleton recorded a first-period pin over Lenny Pinto, who is ranked ninth nationally at 174 pounds and is a three-time NCAA qualifier.
Isaac Trumble returned from a knee injury suffered at the 2025 NCAA Championships in Philadelphia. In his first competition back, Trumble achieved a major decision over Hunter Catka, who is also a three-time NCAA qualifier and currently ranked twentieth.
Freshman Jason Kwaak made his collegiate dual debut at 165 pounds by winning via technical fall against his Morgan State opponent by the end of the second period.
Troy Hohman returned to the lineup at 133 pounds. He won his first match before narrowly losing in sudden victory to Dylan Shawver of Rutgers, an All-American ranked twelfth in the nation.
Looking ahead, NC State will face No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday, December 12 at the Covelli Center in Columbus, Ohio.
