NC State wrestling has announced the addition of Patrick Brophy, a transfer from The Citadel, to its roster. Head coach Pat Popolizio confirmed that Brophy, a redshirt-junior from South Carolina, is immediately eligible to compete for the rest of the 2025-26 season.

Brophy joined the Wolfpack roster last week and made his debut on Sunday, December 21, where he won all three of his matches.

Originally from Chapin, South Carolina, Brophy spent his first three years at The Citadel. During that time, he was regularly ranked individually by InterMat at 197 pounds and qualified for the 2025 NCAA Championships in Philadelphia.

Last season, Brophy earned a silver medal at the Southern Scuffle after securing four wins, including two by major decision.

During his time at Chapin High School, Brophy participated in multiple sports—football, cross country, baseball, wrestling, and track and field—and was on the AB Honor Roll. He completed his senior year undefeated in wrestling and won a state championship. He also finished as an NHSCA High School Nationals All-American at 195 pounds.

Pat Popolizio stated: “We are excited to add Patrick Brophy to our program. His experience and success at both the high school and collegiate levels will be valuable as we continue our season.”
