Missouri Tigers wrestling, ranked No. 12 nationally, finished with a split record at the Journeymen Wrestling “Hustle in the Heartland” event. The team defeated Long Island University (LIU) but lost to No. 6 Nebraska.
Following these matches, Missouri’s season record stands at 6-5. LIU remains winless at 0-6, while Nebraska improved to 5-2.
Missouri won 13 of the 20 bouts contested throughout the evening and earned bonus points in eight individual matches. Key performances included redshirt senior Evan Bates’ upset over Nebraska’s Camden McDanel, an All-American, and redshirt freshman Aeoden Sinclair’s victory against former Big Ten Conference champion Silas Allred.
Against LIU, Missouri recorded a shutout win (42-0). This was the first time the Tigers had achieved such a result against a Division I opponent since January 10, 2024. Seven wrestlers for Missouri secured bonus-point wins during this dual—the most since their November matchup against Maryville earlier in the season.
The match against Nebraska saw Missouri fall by a score of 27-10. The series history now stands at 19 wins for Missouri and 39 for Nebraska with three draws; under Head Coach Brian Smith, Missouri is now 5-10 against Nebraska. Josh Edmond secured his fourth bonus point win of the season with a major decision at 149 pounds. Evan Bates’ win over Camden McDanel avenged a previous loss from last year’s Big Ten Championship when Bates competed for Northwestern.
Aeoden Sinclair’s victory marked his sixth win this season over ranked opponents and his twelfth overall.
Next, Missouri will compete at the Cougar Clash hosted by SIUE on Sunday, December 7 in Edwardsville, Illinois.
