Maryland wrestling wins close tiebreaker against Drexel to end regular season

The University of Maryland wrestling team concluded its regular season with a narrow 20-19 victory over Drexel on Friday night in College Park. The match ended in a tie after all ten weight classes had been contested, requiring the use of NCAA tiebreaker criteria to determine the winner.

Maryland secured the win by outscoring Drexel in total match points, finishing with an 89-87 advantage. Five Maryland wrestlers contributed victories during the dual. Braxton Brown won his bout against Kyle Waterman with a 5-2 decision, while Dario Lemus achieved a 13-6 decision. Sepanta Ahanj-Elias added an 11-7 decision over Ethan Wilson.

Carter Young and Branson John each earned technical falls in their respective matches, providing key bonus points that proved decisive for Maryland’s overall score.

The team will next compete at the Big Ten Championships scheduled for March 7-8 at Penn State.
