Maryland wrestling team secures two victories at Throwdown on the Yorktown

The Maryland wrestling team finished the Throwdown on the Yorktown event in Charleston, South Carolina, with two wins against Gardner-Webb and The Citadel. Maryland defeated Gardner-Webb 27-13 and followed up with a 24-9 victory over The Citadel.

In the opening dual against Gardner-Webb, Maryland showed strong performances across multiple weight classes. Dominic Solis (174 lbs) and Joey Schneck (285 lbs) earned major decisions. Dario Lemus (141 lbs) and Branson John (197 lbs) achieved technical falls. Jaxon Smith (184 lbs) secured a pin early in his match, while Michael Pizzuto (149 lbs) won a close decision in sudden victory.

Maryland maintained its momentum in the match against The Citadel. Braxton Brown (133 lbs) and Dario Lemus (141 lbs) started with decisions in their favor, and Jackson Young (149 lbs) won his bout 4-1 against Thomas Termini. In higher weight classes, Dominic Solis, Jaxon Smith, and Branson John all posted major decisions. Oscar Williams concluded the competition for Maryland with a 5-2 decision over Christian Bell.

The team is scheduled to compete again on Friday, November 21, facing Morgan State.
