The Maryland wrestling team concluded its final road dual of the 2025–26 regular season with a 30–9 loss to No. 16 Rutgers in Piscataway, New Jersey. The Terps now hold a record of 4–7 overall and 0–6 in Big Ten competition, while Rutgers improves to 8–5 overall and 3–3 in the conference.
Maryland secured three individual victories during the meet. Braxton Brown achieved a sudden-victory decision, winning 5–2 over No. 27 Dylan Shawver from Rutgers. Dario Lemus earned an 11–6 decision against Mason Gibson, and Carter Young defeated No. 29 Andrew Clark by a score of 9–4.
The rest of the matches saw Rutgers take control, with Ayden Smith defeating Abram Cline at 125 pounds (2-0), Anthony White earning a technical fall over Garrett Reece at 157 pounds (18-1), and Andrew Barbosa securing another technical fall against AJ Rodrigues at 165 pounds (15-0). Additional wins for Rutgers included Ryan Ford’s major decision over Seth Digby at 174 pounds (19-8), Sepanta Ahanj-Elias’s fall against Shane Cartagena-Walsh at 184 pounds (18-3), Remy Cotton’s major decision over Branson John at 197 pounds (11-2), and Hunter Catka’s decision over Joey Schneck in the heavyweight match (7-3).
Maryland will return home for its next dual meet on Sunday, February 8, when it faces Minnesota at College Park.
