Maryland wrestling head coach Alex Clemsen has announced the signing of five new athletes to the Terrapins’ 2026 recruiting class. The group includes Devin Downes, Ivan Arias, Mateo Vinciguerra, Liston Seibert, and Bradley Williams.
Clemsen expressed enthusiasm about the incoming class and credited his coaching staff for their efforts. “The class of ’21, headlined by Jaxon Smith and Braxton Brown, set the foundation for what we’ve started to build here in College Park. The class of ’26 is going to take us to new heights. There’s a lot of talent, swag, and grit in this group. I’m super excited to get them on campus this summer and watch them start to climb,” Clemsen said. “Coach Brascetta’s work, along with Coach Laird and Coach Matthews, is really why this class is what it is. These guys have worked tirelessly, and I couldn’t be more thankful. I know our fan base will feel the same way. Thanks to the resources that Mr. Smith and his team are providing to Maryland Wrestling, we were able to reload with a great group of kids from awesome families. The next few years with these guys are going to be a lot of fun!”
Ivan Arias joins from Buchanan High School in Clovis, California where he contributed to a state championship team finish and placed third at both the California State Championships and Doc Buchanan Invitational in 2025.
“My visit made it clear that Maryland is the kind of environment where I can grow on and off the mat,” Arias said. “What stood out most to me was the culture within the team, there is a real sense of unity, accountability, and shared purpose… Overall, I feel that Maryland is the right fit for me because of the culture, the coaching, the competition, and the academic environment. It feels like a place where I can grow, contribute, and become the best version of myself.”
Clemsen commented on Arias: “Ivan Arias has a spirit that is so infectious and so positive. He will not only make our lineup better but our entire program better because of the way he lives his life and how much he loves wrestling.”
Bradley Williams comes from Spain Park High School in Hoover, Alabama as a two-time state champion who holds several school records.
“I chose the University of Maryland because [of] the coaching staff and team culture,” Williams stated.
Clemsen added: “If you like watching people throw caution to the wind when they compete then you are going to love watching Bradley Williams. His wrestling is wide-open and electric…”
Liston Seibert arrives from Massillon Perry High School in Ohio as a three-time district champion who also earned All-American honors twice.
” I chose Maryland because the atmosphere was electric,” Seibert explained. “The intensity in the wrestling room… made it clear that this was a place built on hard work and heart… It wasn’t just about winning; it was about becoming part of something bigger…”
Clemsen described Seibert: “Liston Seibert competes every time he steps on the mat… Our fans are going to love watching him.”
Mateo Vinciguerra comes from Woodstown High School in New Jersey after placing at multiple regional events including NHSCA All-American status.
“I chose Maryland because of …the great culture within [the] wrestling program…[and] strong academics…” Vinciguerra said.
Clemsen called him an important addition: “Having a closer in a lineup is something that is critical for good teams…”
Devin Downes helped Plainedge High School win one state title (2024) before finishing runner-up (2025). He has been recognized as state champion twice among other achievements.
“I decided to come to Maryland because I connected extremely well with [the] coaching staff…” Downes noted.
On Downes joining Maryland’s program Clemsen said: “I have been hearing about Devin Downes since he was an 8th grader from his club coach who I’ve been friends with for a long time… Coaching him is going to be very special…”
The five signees will join Maryland’s roster beginning summer 2026 as part of ongoing efforts by Clemsen’s staff to strengthen their competitive standing.
