Lehigh University’s men’s wrestling team began its 2025-26 season at the Princeton Open on Sunday, fielding 22 wrestlers in the event held at Jadwin Gym. Sophomore Matty Lopes (133 pounds) and junior Rylan Rogers (184 pounds) each secured individual titles for the Mountain Hawks. Lopes competed unattached.
Lopes started his tournament with a fall and followed with two decision victories to reach the finals against Army’s Ethan Berginc, who had beaten him twice last season. This time, Lopes claimed a narrow win. “Lopes used a first period takedown and third period reversal to claim a 5-4 victory,” according to the team.
Rogers opened with two technical fall wins before defeating teammate Jack Wilt 6-1 in the semifinals. In the final, Rogers earned a 2-0 decision over TJ McDonnell of Oregon State, thanks to “a second period ride out and third period escape.”
Lehigh placed three wrestlers among the top four at 184 pounds: Rogers, Wilt, and sophomore Jared Schoppe. Schoppe won by major decision and by fall before losing in the semifinals but took third place via medical forfeit over Wilt.
Sophomore Zeke Dubler finished third at 174 pounds after pinning Army’s Andrew Christie in their match for third place.
Graduate student JT Davis reached the semifinals at 197 pounds and ended up finishing fourth.
Senior Carter Bailey posted a 3-2 record at 141 pounds while deferred first-year Seamus Mack won one bout in that weight class.
At 149 pounds, sophomore Matt Repos notched four wins; junior Kelvin Griffin and first-year Jadon Skellenger each picked up one victory.
Sophomore Griffin Gonzalez went 3-2 at 157 pounds; graduate student Zac Martin also competed in this division.
Junior Owen Quinn lost both matches he contested at 165 pounds.
Seven Lehigh wrestlers entered at 174 pounds. First-year Duncan Christensen recorded four victories; sophomores Justin Onello and Richie Grungo as well as first-year Dom Federici each won once. Senior Keegan Gagnon and sophomore Liam Gil-Swiger also participated but did not record wins.
At 197 pounds, senior Dontae Hoose and junior Remy Brancato-Roed both finished with one win apiece from three matches.
The Mountain Hawks are scheduled to compete next weekend in Bethlehem. They will face Duke and Virginia on Saturday during Journeymen WrangleMania at Liberty High School before moving to Freedom High School on Sunday for the Journeymen Collegiate Classic.
The program noted that “the 2025-26 Lehigh men’s wrestling season is presented by the Historic Hotel Bethlehem.”
