No. 21 Lehigh University’s wrestling team will travel to Baltimore to face Morgan State on Friday evening, marking the fourth meeting between the two programs and the first at Morgan State. The dual is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Hurt Gym, with video available on MorganStateBears.com/watch and audio coverage provided by FOX Sports Radio 94.7 FM, 1230 AM, and LVFOXSports.com.
Lehigh enters the match with an 8-6 overall record and a perfect 3-0 mark in Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) competition. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a recent victory over Army West Point, where they secured a 29-11 win by taking seven out of ten bouts and earning bonus points in five matches. Notable performances included senior Max Brignola overcoming an early deficit to pin Gunner Filipowicz at 165 pounds, technical fall and major decision wins from Luke Stanich (141), Sheldon Seymour (125), Logan Rozynski (157), and Rylan Rogers (184).
Head coach Pat Santoro is approaching a career milestone; his next dual meet win will be his 200th as Lehigh’s head coach. “With one more victory, Santoro would be the second coach to reach 200 dual wins at Lehigh. The legendary Billy Sheridan won 223 duals from 1912-52.” Including his tenure at Maryland, Santoro has accumulated a total of 247 career dual meet victories.
Several Lehigh wrestlers are ranked nationally across multiple outlets including InterMat, FloWrestling, WrestleStat, Amateur Wrestling News, and The Open Mat. Graduate student Sheldon Seymour is currently the highest-ranked Mountain Hawk according to four of these organizations. Other highly ranked wrestlers include sophomore Luke Stanich (141), senior Nathan Taylor (285), sophomore Logan Rozynski (157), and senior Max Brignola (165).
Morgan State continues its search for its first dual win this season with an overall record of 0-13 and an EIWA record of 0-4. Last weekend saw them drop matches against California Baptist and Cal Poly while also facing Drexel, Navy, Bucknell, and Hofstra in conference play this year. Eugene Harney stands as their lone nationally-ranked wrestler at No. 28 in the country at 149 pounds according to InterMat—making him the only EIWA wrestler ranked at that weight class.
Morgan State’s wrestling program was reinstated before the start of last season after being dormant for several years; they became EIWA’s twelfth member in September 2024 under head coach Kenny Monday—a National Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee who was a three-time Olympian and became the first Black wrestler to win Olympic gold.
The series history favors Lehigh with three previous wins: two meetings took place during Wolverine Quad events in Ann Arbor during Januarys of both 1993 and 1995; most recently Morgan State visited Grace Hall last November.
Following Friday’s contest against Morgan State, Lehigh will conclude its home schedule next weekend hosting Penn on February 13 at Grace Hall followed by Bucknell on February 14 when seniors will be honored prior to competition.
