No. 8 ranked Lehigh University began its dual meet wrestling season with two wins over ACC opponents at the Journeymen WrangleMania event, which took place at Liberty High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The Mountain Hawks first defeated Duke University with a score of 38-7, claiming bonus points in all eight of their match victories.
Sheldon Seymour started the match against Duke by pinning Riley Rowen in the second period. Logan Wadle followed with a major decision over John King, scoring 12-4. Carter Bailey and Owen Reinsel each secured major decision wins at 141 and 149 pounds, respectively. Rozynski and Max Brignola both earned technical fall victories for Lehigh.
Duke got its first win at 174 pounds when Aidan Wallace edged out Dom Federici 4-1 in sudden victory. Rylan Rogers received a forfeit at 184 pounds, and JT Davis won his bout against Owen McGrory with a major decision, 13-3. The final match went to Duke’s Connor Barket, who posted an 18-5 major decision over Calvin Lachman.
In the second dual of the day against Virginia, Lehigh started strong with back-to-back wins from Seymour and Mason Ziegler. Seymour defeated nationally-ranked Keyveon Roller by a score of 9-2; Ziegler followed with a major decision over Aiden Allen.
Virginia responded by taking the next three bouts to lead midway through the contest. Brignola put Lehigh back ahead with a technical fall over Michael Murphy. However, Virginia regained the lead after Nick Hamilton’s major decision over Federici.
Lehigh secured victory after Rogers recorded a technical fall against Jack Lesher and Davis clinched the dual by defeating Max Shulaw with a major decision (13-5). In the final bout, Virginia’s Brenan Morgan won against Lachman.
Rogers and Davis both finished undefeated on the day alongside Seymour and Brignola. Wadle and Ziegler each earned their first career dual meet victories after moving up to compete at 133 pounds.
Lehigh will continue its season Sunday as some wrestlers participate in the Journeymen Collegiate Classic at Freedom High School starting at 9 a.m., with coverage available on FloWrestling.org.
