North Carolina wrestler Kysen Terukina has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Wrestler of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office on Tuesday.
Terukina, who competes in the 125-pound weight class and is in his first season with the Tar Heels, received this recognition for the first time in his career. The honor follows a successful weekend where he went 2-0 against Nebraska and Northern Iowa.
During competition against Nebraska, Terukina secured a 4-1 decision over Alan Koehler. He then achieved a ranked victory by defeating No. 26 Trever Anderson of Northern Iowa with a score of 5-3. His performance contributed to North Carolina’s win over No. 12 Northern Iowa, marking their highest-ranked road victory since the 2017-18 season.
So far this season, Terukina holds a 6-0 record, with all wins coming during dual meets. Sunday’s match at Northern Iowa was his first ranked win of the year. Terukina remains the only undefeated Tar Heel wrestler this season.
Looking ahead, North Carolina will start its 2026 schedule at the two-day Soldier Salute event in Coralville, Iowa. The team will also begin ACC dual competition on January 16 with an away match at Virginia.
