Kannon Webster was named Scholar Athlete of the Week on Mar. 26 following his performance at the NCAA Wrestling Championships, where he earned All-America honors with a fifth-place finish in the 157-pound weight class.
The recognition highlights Webster’s success both on and off the mat, reflecting his athletic achievements and academic pursuits at the University of Illinois.
Webster, a redshirt sophomore majoring in Agriculture & Consumer Economics with a concentration in Agribusiness Markets & Management and a minor in Environmental Economics and the Law, posted a season record of 25-6. He led his team with seven technical falls and accumulated 50 dual points, which was second-most among his teammates. His efforts included an upset victory over third-seeded Meyer Shapiro from Cornell during his run to fifth place at nationals.
In addition to his national performance, Webster secured a bronze medal at the Big Ten Championships. He also recorded a strong dual meet record of 12-3 for the season.
Webster is from Toulon, Illinois. The award recognizes not only his wrestling accomplishments but also his dedication to academics as he continues his studies at Illinois.
