Indiana University’s wrestling team concluded its participation in the NCAA Championships on March 21, with Jacob Moran securing a sixth-place finish at 125 pounds. The tournament took place in Cleveland, Ohio, and marked the end of Indiana’s run at the national event.

Moran was the only Hoosier to compete on Saturday morning. He began his day with a consolation semifinal against Stanford’s Nico Provo, where he narrowly missed an early takedown before losing by decision, 8-1. In the fifth-place match, Moran faced Troy Spratley from Oklahoma State and was defeated by fall at 4:11, resulting in a sixth-place overall finish for Moran.

This result represents Indiana’s highest individual placement since Nate Jackson finished fifth at 174 pounds in 2016. As a team, Indiana accumulated 19.5 points and secured a 21st place finish—their best team performance since also placing 21st in 2010 with a higher point total of 26.0.

Other Hoosiers competing included Bryce Lowery (157 lbs), Tyler Lillard (165 lbs), Derek Gilcher (174 lbs), Sam Goin (184 lbs), and Gabe Sollars (197 lbs). While several wrestlers advanced through early rounds or won matches in consolation brackets, none reached the podium alongside Moran.

Penn State led the team standings with 164 points, followed by Oklahoma State and Nebraska. Indiana’s showing this year highlights progress within the program and sets a benchmark for future national tournaments.
