Indiana Wrestling saw improved results during Session II of the NCAA Championships on March 20, with five wrestlers securing wins and four still competing after the first day at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

The highlight for Indiana came from No. 14 Jacob Moran, who advanced to his first career quarterfinals appearance at the national level. Moran defeated No. 3 Nic Bouzakis of Ohio State by major decision, 10-2, using two takedowns in the first period to establish a strong lead. This victory also marked a turnaround for Moran, who had lost twice earlier in the season to Bouzakis.

Moran’s advancement continues a recent trend for Indiana Wrestling, as it is the second consecutive year—and third time in four years—that a Hoosier has reached the quarterfinals at nationals. His win sparked further success for Indiana: No. 33 Sam Goin won his second preliminary round match in tiebreakers; No. 29 Bryce Lowery and No. 26 Tyler Lillard each secured pins over their opponents to progress through the consolation bracket; and No. 14 Gabe Sollars earned a technical fall victory over Karson Tompkins of Air Force.

Despite these successes, both Derek Gilcher and Sam Goin were eliminated after dropping their second matches of the day. At the end of day one, Indiana was tied for 18th place with a team score of 10.5 points.

Competition will continue tomorrow with Session III scheduled for noon and Session IV set for 8 p.m., as four Hoosiers remain active in pursuit of further advancement.
