NC State wrestling will have a representative in the national finals for the third consecutive season, as heavyweight Isaac Trumble is set to face Yonger Bastida of Iowa State tonight, March 21. The championship match will be broadcast on ESPN, with live scores available on TrackWrestling.com.

This event continues NC State’s tradition of strong performances at the national level. The program has produced 16 finalists across all weight classes, including seven in the heavyweight division. The most recent champion at this weight was Nick Gwiazdowski, who won back-to-back titles in 2014 and 2015 and now trains regularly with Trumble.

Trumble enters the final as the No. 2 seed with a perfect 20-0 record this season, which includes 15 bonus point wins. His opponent, Bastida, is the No. 1 seed and holds a 29-0 record with 20 bonus point wins. Both wrestlers previously competed at 197 lbs before moving up to the heavyweight class and have earned All-American status in past seasons—Trumble placed fourth last year while Bastida finished fifth in 2022.

In other results for NC State, Vincent Robinson secured fourth place at 125 lbs after defeating Troy Spratley of Oklahoma State in the consolation semifinals but falling to Nico Provo of Stanford in the third-place match. Robinson now has back-to-back All-American honors following his national title win last season.

As team scores stand, Penn State leads with 164 points followed by Oklahoma State and Nebraska. NC State currently sits in eleventh place with a total of 40.5 points.

The finals session begins at 6:30 p.m., with Trumble scheduled as the eighth match of the night.
