Isaac Trumble, a national champion for NC State wrestling, was named a Scholar All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association on Apr. 2. Trumble is one of 390 student-athletes nationwide to receive this honor, which recognizes excellence in both academics and athletics.
The recognition highlights the balance that student-athletes like Trumble maintain between their performance in sports and their academic achievements. The award is given to those who meet strict criteria based on athletic results and grade point average.
NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer said, “These student-athletes have demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence both on the mat and in the classroom. We commend their dedication and the example they set for the sport.”
This is the fourth time Trumble has earned this distinction during his collegiate career, having previously received it in 2025, 2022, and 2021. Last year, another member of NC State’s wrestling team, Kai Orine, also became a four-time NWCA Scholar All-American.
Nominees are selected based on academic records as well as athletic results tracked by TrackWrestling. To qualify for the honor, athletes must either place in the top eight at nationals with at least a 3.00 GPA; be a national qualifier with at least a 3.2 GPA; be a conference qualifier with at least a 3.5 GPA; or compete in at least fifteen matches with sixty percent wins while maintaining at least a 3.5 GPA.
The continued success of NC State wrestlers like Trumble reflects ongoing efforts within college athletics to emphasize achievement both academically and athletically.
