The University of Iowa wrestling team concluded the 2025-26 season with an overall record of 11-6 and a Big Ten record of 4-3, placing fourth at both the Big Ten Championships and the NCAA Championships, according to an April 6 announcement. Seven Hawkeyes earned All-American honors this season, while twelve wrestlers were named Academic All-Big Ten.

The team’s performance maintains Iowa’s long-standing tradition as one of college wrestling’s most successful programs. The Hawkeyes have won a total of 24 national titles and 37 Big Ten titles since their first championship in 1975. Over that period, Iowa has produced seven three-time and sixteen two-time NCAA individual champions.

This year, Michael Caliendo advanced to the finals at the NCAA Championships in the 165-pound weight class, extending Iowa’s streak to having at least one finalist for thirty-five consecutive tournaments. The program also continues its run of crowning at least one All-American for fifty-five straight years dating back to 1972.

Head coach Tom Brands reached his milestone three-hundredth win with the program during a victory over Nebraska this season. Under Brands’ leadership since taking over before the 2006-07 campaign, Iowa has consistently sent nine or more wrestlers to nationals each year for fourteen straight seasons.

In addition to athletic achievements, academic recognition remains strong within the team. Twelve wrestlers made Academic All-Big Ten for winter sports in the current academic year by maintaining a minimum cumulative grade-point average of three-point-zero while being full-time students on varsity rosters as verified by March first.

Looking ahead, construction on the new $31 million Goschke Family Wrestling Training Center was completed in May last year. This facility provides expanded training space and resources for both men’s and women’s wrestling teams as they prepare for future seasons.
