Iowa State wrestling drops road dual to Oklahoma State

No. 3 Iowa State was defeated by No. 5 Oklahoma State with a score of 24-9 in a wrestling dual held Sunday at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Cowboys secured victories in the first seven matches before the Cyclones claimed wins in the final three bouts.

Seven out of ten matches were closely contested, being decided by a takedown or less. Following this result, Iowa State’s season record stands at 9-2 overall and 5-1 within the Big 12 Conference, while Oklahoma State improved to 12-1 overall and remains undefeated at 7-0 in league duals.

Iowa State’s first win came at 184 pounds when No. 12 Isaac Dean earned a 5-1 decision over Trevor Dopps. This was followed by No. 1 Rocky Elam defeating No. 7 Cody Merrill with a last-second takedown for a 4-1 decision in tiebreakers. In the heavyweight division, top-ranked Yonger Bastida closed out the meet for Iowa State with a decisive 5-2 victory against No. 6 Konner Doucet.

The match drew an attendance of 10,002 spectators.

Looking ahead, Iowa State will return home for its final three duals of the season, starting against West Virginia on Friday, February 13 at Hilton Coliseum.
