Indiana University’s wrestling program has announced its first recruit for the 2026 class. Head coach Angel Escobedo confirmed that Tommy Gibbs from Brownsburg, Indiana, has signed to join the Hoosiers and will start in the fall of 2026.
Gibbs currently competes for Brownsburg High School under coach Darrick Snyder and is also part of Contenders Wrestling Academy. During the 2024-25 season, he posted a record of 15 wins and four losses at 144 pounds. He secured both an individual and team state title at this weight class in the same season.
Brownsburg High School’s wrestling team won consecutive state championships in 2023-24 and finished third in 2022-23. According to IndianaMat, Gibbs is ranked as the fourth best pound-for-pound wrestler in Indiana among the 2026 class.
Gibbs also achieved fifth place at Fargo’s 16U Greco-Roman Nationals and sixth place at Fargo’s 16U Freestyle Nationals in 2024.
“Tommy is an outstanding addition to our program,” Escobedo said. “He has proven himself at both the state and national level, and we are excited to welcome him to Indiana Wrestling.”
