Indiana wrestling opens season with win against Lock Haven

No. 26 Indiana University’s wrestling team began its season with a 25-8 victory over Lock Haven at the Journeyman’s WrangleMania event held at Freedom High School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Indiana secured wins in seven out of ten bouts, while Lock Haven was penalized two points due to point deductions. The result gives Indiana a 1-0 record to start the dual competition season.

The match featured several notable performances from Indiana wrestlers. Jacob Moran, ranked No. 12 at 125 pounds, opened his season with a major decision win over Curtis Nelson, finishing 23-15. Logan Frazier (133 pounds) won his first dual appearance as a Hoosier by defeating No. 21 Gabe Strickland in a close 2-1 decision.

From the 157-pound through the 197-pound classes, Indiana won five consecutive bouts. At 165 pounds, No. 19 Tyler Lillard pinned Nick Kunstek in three minutes and forty-two seconds. Derek Gilcher (174 pounds), ranked No. 28, defeated No. 24 Avery Bassett by decision with a score of 7-4. At the 197-pound weight class, No. 12 Gabe Sollars did not allow any takedowns and beat No. 25 Tucker Hogan with a score of 5-1.

Additional highlights included bonus-point victories from both Jacob Moran (major decision) and Tyler Lillard (fall). Indiana also collected three ranked wins from Frazier, Gilcher, and Sollars.

Nick Pavlechko made his first career dual appearance for Indiana during this meet.

After this win, Indiana will remain in Bethlehem to compete in the Journeymen Collegiate Classic Tournament on November 9.

The final team score was Indiana University winning over Lock Haven by a margin of seventeen points after accounting for Lock Haven’s two-point deduction.
