Four wrestlers from Indiana University participated in the Patriots Last Chance Open on Sunday, February 22, in Fairfax, Virginia. The event was hosted by George Mason University and marked Indiana’s final regular season competition.
Chris Crawford (165 lbs) and Lucas Peters (141 lbs) each won their respective weight classes. Blaine Frazier (133 lbs) secured a second-place finish, while No. 14 Sam Goin (184 lbs) also competed.
No team scores were recorded for this open tournament.
During the event, Frazier advanced past the Round of 16 with a technical fall over Sean Garrettson in just over three minutes. Peters achieved two bonus-point victories to claim his title. Crawford moved through the semifinals after two close matches and then defeated Leo Contino of West Virginia by major decision before winning against Jordan Brown of Binghamton in the finals. Goin started his day with a major decision win over Rylan Breen from NC State.
Peters earned his second first-place finish at an open tournament this season, last achieving this at the Kent State Open in December. Frazier reached the podium for a second time this year; he previously placed sixth at the Michigan State Open in November. Crawford ended his regular season with more than 30 wins, finishing with a record of 33-7 and claiming his fourth open tournament championship of the season.
Indiana will next compete at the Big Ten Championships on March 7 at Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center.
