Indiana University will host Purdue University in their annual wrestling rivalry on Friday, February 20, at Wilkinson Hall. The event marks the 106th meeting between the two teams since their first match in 1923. Indiana leads the series with 56 wins, while Purdue has claimed victory 46 times and there have been three draws.

Both teams enter the matchup with similar records; Indiana stands at 8-5 and Purdue at 9-6. Indiana has won the last three meetings, ending a previous run of twelve consecutive victories by Purdue. In their most recent contests, Indiana secured a narrow win in West Lafayette in 2023 and followed up with more decisive victories in 2024 and 2025.

Looking back at their recent performance, Indiana began strongly against Nebraska with Jacob Moran achieving a technical fall at 125 pounds. However, Nebraska won the remaining nine bouts. Despite these losses, several matches were closely contested.

The Hoosiers’ lineup remains consistent, featuring seven wrestlers who started multiple times during the current and previous season. Jacob Moran and Derek Gilcher are noted as the team’s longest-serving members since joining in the 2020-21 season.

Purdue’s squad includes seven ranked athletes, such as Joey Blaze—last year’s NCAA runner-up at 157 pounds—and other NCAA qualifiers from the previous season. Purdue has achieved conference wins over Maryland and Michigan State this year and collected several non-conference victories.

This Friday’s match is Indiana’s final dual meet of the regular season before they compete in the Patriot Last Chance Open hosted by George Mason on Sunday, February 22. The postseason begins soon after with the Big Ten Championships scheduled for March 7-8 at Penn State and the NCAA Championships taking place March 19-21 in Cleveland.
