Indiana finished its run at the Big Ten Championships on March 8 with its strongest performance in over a decade, securing a tenth-place team finish and four automatic bids to the NCAA Championships.

This result marks Indiana’s best showing at the conference tournament since 2012, when it also placed tenth. The team’s progress is highlighted by three wrestlers reaching the podium, with Jacob Moran (125 pounds) and Gabe Sollars (197 pounds) each finishing fourth—the highest individual placements for Indiana wrestlers at Big Tens since 2019.

Moran advanced through the consolation semifinals by defeating Michigan’s Diego Sotelo in a close 9-7 decision before narrowly losing to Ohio State’s Nic Bouzakis in the third-place match. Sollars also reached his third-place bout after an 8-1 win over Wisconsin’s Wyatt Ingham but fell short against Ohio State’s Luke Geog, ending with a final score of 7-5.

Alongside Moran and Sollars, Bryce Lowery (157 pounds) and Derek Gilcher (174 pounds) clinched their spots at the NCAA Championships. Gilcher secured his second career NCAA appearance after an 11-7 victory over Northwestern’s Eddie Enright in the eleventh-place semifinal match. Lowery finished sixth in his weight class.

As a team, Indiana accumulated 40 points during the tournament. The Hoosiers now await potential additional qualifiers when at-large selections for the NCAA Championships are announced on March 10.

The broader significance of this performance lies in Indiana’s continued improvement within one of college wrestling’s most competitive conferences. With several athletes advancing to nationals and strong individual showings, observers will be watching to see if this momentum carries into future seasons.
