Redshirt junior Ian Bush of West Virginia University was named the Big 12 Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year for wrestling for the 2025-26 season, according to a March 19 announcement.
Bush, who majors in finance and accounting and holds a 4.0 grade point average, is the first wrestler from West Virginia University to receive this honor. The award recognizes student-athletes who excel both academically and athletically.
In addition to his academic achievements, Bush recorded five wins over ranked opponents during the season and secured a total of 20 match victories. His most notable win came against Oklahoma’s No. 11 Brian Soldano with a decision score of 4-1. He also defeated Northern Iowa’s No. 21 Nick Fox by decision, 8-2, contributing to West Virginia University’s highest-ranked win under head coach Tim Flynn.
Bush finished third at the Big 12 Wrestling Championships, marking his best career finish at that event and earning him an automatic bid to compete in the NCAA Wrestling Championships.
The recognition highlights both Bush’s commitment in the classroom and his performance on the mat as he continues his collegiate wrestling career.
